Accra Hearts of Oak have booked a place in the last eight of the CAF champions league after beating Etoile du Sahel in a nerve-wracking penalty shoot out.
The Phobians beat the Tunisian side 6-5 on penalties after settling for a 1-1 drawn game over the two-leg tie.
The hero of the day was young goalkeeper, Laud Quartey who pulled two great saves to help Hearts edge out Etoile du Sahel and book a place in the group stage of the lucrative competition.
But Quartey who had the opportunity to have crowned a great day with the decisive fifth kick missed from the spot.
Francis Bossman and Kwabena Boafo converted HeartsÂ’ seventh and eighth kicks as Etoile missed their last kick.
Hearts thus avoid another preliminary stage exit from the African Champions League beating Etoile du Sahel
Hearts went into game 1-0 up after beating Etoile du Sahel from the first leg in Obuasi.
The Phobians thus manage to exact revenge on Etoile after their painful ordeal in 2004 when the Tunisian side ended their campaign with at this same stage of the competition on penalties.
The draw for the next round of the competition will be held in Cairo on Saturday 13 May. |
